Xaro Lodge is a sister lodge of Drotsky’s Cabins and Lawdons Lodge in Shakawe, Botswana, in the western panhandle of the Okavango Delta. You can only reach this luxury private lodge by a pre-arranged boat transfer from Drotsky’s Cabins, so your mother-in-law will not be able to drop in unannounced! The cost of the transfer will be only BWP 15-00 per person.

Xaro Lodge is a must-visit if you are a birding enthusiast. Species that are spotted regularly include the Pel’s Fishing Owl, skimmers, carmines, egrets, herons, kingfisher, boubous, etcetera. Besides the prolific number of bird species in the Shakawe region of Botswana, Xaro Lodge ensures that you won’t have to share your viewing space with throngs of other tourists.

The river boasts seventeen species of fish – most notable however, are the tigerfish and bream. Xaro Lodge offers boating cruises and on one of these cruises you are guaranteed to see hippos, crocs and sitatunga.

There are only 8 meru-type tents at Xaro Lodge near Shakawe in Botswana. Each luxury tent is pitched on a leadwood deck beneath huge shady trees and overlooks the Okavango River. Each tent has a glass door, is en suite and sleeps two guests.

At Xaro Lodge meals are served in the dining room. The after-dinner cigars and brandy around the campfire or in the bar are bound to spark memorable conversations. On hot days the swimming pool offers welcome respite.
